The Art of Letting Go
Fri, Jun 09
|Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce
Although grief is universal, it is nearly impossible to universally define and express with language. Art can serve as a tool to help express that for which we cannot find the words.

About the event
Let us join in community to explore new ways of expressing and processing our grief. Together, we'll create mixed media art projects, use guided meditation/visualization and spend some time journaling. We will also have a sharing circle to verbally process our experiences.
The workshop will be held in the PNM Conference Room in the West Building of the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce (1309 4th St SW, ABQ). The room is at the top of the stairs; the elevator is nearby for accessibility.
Materials List:
- Please bring a photo of your loved one or an object that reminds you of them.
We will briefly talk about our loved ones or share the story behind the object we bring. Sharing out loud helps keep the memory of our loved ones alive and with us. It also allows us the opportunity to bear witness to each other's love & grief; reminding us that we are not alone in our pain.
- A journal or notebook and pen.
Writing down your thoughts, emotions and felt experiences helps integrate the lessons you'll learn in this workshop and is a beautiful way to process grief and any other emotions that may come up throughout the process.
- A face mask - OPTIONAL.
We will be working in close proximity to one another for the duration of the workshop and encourage participants to do what is right for them in regards to infection control practices. We ask that all participants practice good hand hygiene.
Art Supplies:
We will provide some art supplies, but we suggest that you bring what you can as well. Please do not go out and purchase any new supplies. Simply bring what you already have of some, or all, of the following optional items:
- Glue Stick
- Colored Pencils
- Markers
- Scissors
- Scotch Tape
- Old magazines, greeting cards, postcards (to be used for collaging)
